standard_4_ways_to_avoid_colds_and_flu_this_winter.jpegIt hits every year and they have promised a cure forever, but it has never appeared. You know what I am talking about -colds and flu. So, what is the answer if science can’t sort it out? But first of all, a question, did you know that there were probably no epidemics before we had large towns? It is simply the near proximity of a lot of other people that cause epidemics like colds and flu. I know that it is the nature of modern life and over population, that lots of people are packed together, so what’s the answer if it is a fact of life?

To a certain extent it is in our hands, literally!

Wash Your Hands Regularly.

The Centres for Disease Control in the US has said contrary to popular belief colds and flu are not caused by droplet infection. 90% of colds and flu are caused by touch contamination. Every time you go out you touch something, we all do. Door handles, lift (elevator) buttons, shaking hands, taking money in shops, your debit card when you pay for things. You then come back home touch your front door handle, your keys, take your shoes, coat and then infect everything you touch. Such as your clothes you have worn, handles to cupboards, sink taps, that biscuit you have just had with your coffee and their you are you have just created your own contamination room/house!!

Practise Tai Chi & Qigong

You knew I was going to say that didn’t you? Of course, you did, but it is true. Experiments were carried out where they measured the number of T- Killer Cells were measured after doing Tai Chi. The researchers took samples before and after doing Tai Chi and found that the T-Killer cells had increased markedly. T- Killer cells are part of your immune response to disease, these are some of your best friends, hunting down invading germs and infections.

Chinese Herb Astragalus.

Astragalus has many reported benefits, including immune-boosting, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects. But for this post we will stick to its immune fighting benefits.

Astragalus, called in Chinese huáng qí or milkvetch. Astragalus appears to increase your body’s production of white blood cells which are the mainstay of your immune system.

The easiest way to take Astragalus is in capsule form and can be purchase from most health Food Stores and on the internet. Stick to the directions on the bottle.

Obviously check with your health care professional if you are on drugs or have any sort of condition.

Get at least 6 Hours Sleep

I know we are all told to get 8 hours sleep, but most people don’t. There is some evidence that 6 hours seems to be the average when people are left to wake up naturally.

You have 4 ways that you can cut down the number of times you catch colds and flu this winter, are you going to use them?
